Decorating Cupcakes 1.0

Decorating is everything when it comes to cupcakes. And it is so incredibly FUN. You get to put your own creativity into every single little miracle that you made. I know it seems like an easy task, but trust me when I say that it isn't as easy as it looks. Decorating a cupcake takes a lot of creativity and a seriously OCD person. You have to have a steady hand, and passion going into every single cupcake. The decoration is the first thing that a person sees when they see your cupcakes. Decorating is like the stage for the ooey gooey goodness that they are about to get themselves into. The cake will wow them as soon as they take a bite, but its the creation that you put on top that will pull them in. These decorations will include things that EVERYONE can do. Not just specific bakers with fondant and such. These will be for homemakers who are just looking for an easy way out. Here are my 10 ways to decorate yummy cupcakes!!

1. White Chocolate Drawings

This one is as simple as it sounds. Melt some white chocolate morsels or bark (use food coloring if needed), put it in a piping bag and draw whatever you want. Freeze or refrigerate them and then stick them on top of your cupcakes.

This cute little valentine cupcake is a great example for white chocolate drawings. It is the perfect decoration and completely edible!

2. Fruit

This one is just as easy as it sounds. If you are using strawberries on your cupcakes or it just makes sense, use a simple strawberry for you decoration. They are simple and easy, and again very edible and yummy! Here is a picture that someone used a chocolate covered strawberry for 4th of July Decoration. I actually did this one year for the 4th of July, and they were delicious and looked super cute!
You get a yummy cupcake with a cute independence day theme!
Here is another great idea for something simple. If you didn't have a specific holiday near your event this would be a great way to go.

3. Candy

DUH! Candy, why didn't I think of that? If your cupcakes require a type of candy inside of them, or if you are doing a Reese's themed cupcake, then you can just stick a Reese's on top of it! I love this idea because you do not have to put much thought into them!
How cute are these rainbow cloud cupcakes?? They took their theme to the next level, and stuck an Xtreme candy on top with cloud frosting and a blue sky. I really think that decorations take you cupcakes to the next level.
Here is another great idea for the candy aspect of it. How yummy do these look? They took a regular chocolate cupcake, and made it look absolutely delicious. This cupcake would grab any chocolate lovers attention and make sure that they for sure grab that one!

4. Flags

This one isn't my particular favorite, as it is not edible, but these are still very cute and easy to decorate with! You are probably like what are you even talking about when I say flags. Seriously, they are just little flags that you can stick in the middle of the cupcake and decorate any way that you like. I have only used them a handful of times, but they are super easy to just decorate anything with in a pickle.
These cupcakes are the cutest things with just a simple mr. and mrs. on them to decorate for a wedding. Sometimes it isn't easy to decorate cupcakes with these types of events, but with the simple flags you can do anything.
I think that these cupcakes are cute too! Easy for an island getaway party or a cute fiesta! Love the great ideas that you can make come to live with these.

7. Cookies

Who doesn't love cookies? I think this way is another great way to decorate your cupcakes with something edible. Just a simple cookie! You could do chocolate chip cookies for a chocolate chip cookie dough cupcake recipe. You can do an Oreo for a cookies and cream cupcake recipe. I think that this is the perfect way for an easy fix on your cupcakes.
Here is a cookies and cream recipe with a simple Oreo on top! Super cute and easy.

8. Ganache

Ganache is a syrupy chocolate drizzle that a lot of bakers use as a decoration on top of cupcakes. This is also a great way to decorate a large number of cupcakes. You can spoon it on top of frosting or just dip the cupcakes into the ganache as the frosting. Ganache is super easy to make too. Bring 1/4 cup of milk to a simmer, then remove it from the heat and pour it over 1 cup of room temperature chocolate chips. Here is a picture of yummy S'mores

Another great way to use ganache is as the filling in cupcakes, and it is super good!

9. Drizzles

Chocolate drizzle is another quick but great way to enhance the appearance of your cupcakes. I like to melt semi-sweet or milk chocolate morsels in a double boil pan, and then take a spatula or a piping bag and drizzle the chocolate on top of the cupcakes. This makes for a cute and easy way to decorate them. It's also edible which is my favorite thing.
Here is a picture of a drizzle used perfectly! They used the drizzle technique as the actual frosting! I think this is genius, especially with a cinnamon flavored cupcake.

10. Chocolate Shavings

This one is a good one as it is super simple and easy, but still super cute and yummy! How do you do this? I just take hardened chocolate bark and use a potato peeler to shave the chocolate off of the big chunk of chocolate. Another great way to do it is to grind up chocolate chips inside a blender. I do prefer the first method better though as this way can get messy. You also tend to use more dishes with that method.
Here is a super yummy looking cupcake with just a little added bliss on top!

Okay, so now you know all of my super simple and easy tricks for decorating cupcakes. Try some and let me know what you think in the comments. Like I said at the beginning, I didn't want to do anything with fondant, as not every household person has it. It can also get super messy and sticky, whereas all of these ways are super simple and easy to do! Let me know what you think!
